About HR Business Partner roles
The HR Business Partner is HR's advisory arm — embedded with a business unit, accountable for the people agenda inside it rather than for a functional process. A typical HRBP mandate in India covers manpower planning with the unit head, performance and talent review cycles, employee relations and grievance handling, engagement and attrition analysis, compensation recommendations at cycle time, and change support during restructures. Employers look for business literacy as much as HR knowledge: the ability to read a P&L, challenge a leader, and connect an attrition number to a revenue consequence. Openings here span Assistant Manager HRBP and Senior HRBP roles through to Lead HRBP and People Partner Director mandates in IT services, GCCs, manufacturing, BFSI and consumer businesses.

HR Business Partner jobs — common questions
What does an HR Business Partner actually do?
An HRBP is assigned to a business unit and owns its people agenda: workforce planning, performance and talent reviews, employee relations, engagement and attrition, compensation inputs, and change management. The role is advisory and consultative — the HRBP influences business leaders rather than running centralised HR processes.
HRBP vs HR Generalist — what is the difference?
An HR Generalist handles a broad mix of HR tasks, often including operations, recruitment and administration for a site or small company. An HRBP is strategically aligned to one business unit, is measured on that unit's people outcomes, and relies on centres of excellence for payroll, TA and L&D delivery. HRBP roles usually require deeper business and stakeholder skill.
What experience do HRBP roles in India typically require?
Most HRBP mandates ask for four to eight years of HR experience with meaningful stakeholder exposure, plus demonstrable work on performance cycles, employee relations cases and attrition analysis. An MBA or PGDM in HR from a recognised institute is commonly preferred, though strong operating experience frequently substitutes for it.
